Lights out in Western Europe

Major tourist attractions in Western Europe were plunged in darkness for five minutes yesterday evening, albeit intentionally, to heighten awareness regarding changes in climate. Landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Coliseum went dark along with millions of homes in Europe which turned off their lights to focus attention on the perils of unrelenting fossil-fuel consumption which is contributing to global warming.

The effort was called upon by environmental groups after a top scientific panel from the UN met in Paris to arrive at a consensus on a climate-change report. The earth’s temperature is set to rise by as much as 4.0 C in the next 100 years.
