Spanish cuisine is amazing. I really love the way they choose what ingredients to include and the way they actually cook their food. My favorite is the paella because I love rice and seafood very much. Here are five most famous and very delicious dishes that you should never miss when you visit Spain:
Paella
It is the most popular dish in Spain. which is made with rice, seafood, meat, and vegetables. It originates in Valencia and is served most especially during holidays, special occasions, and on Sundays. It is like the risotto, but the cooking process for paella is different . With risotto, the rise is fried; but in paella, the rice is never fried.
The traditional paella is made in a shallow, broad dish with slanting sides. The dish or plate is usually thirteen inches in diameter. The meats and vegetables are sautéed first in olive oil, and then water is added, followed by the rice. Stirring the mixture is required and then waiting for it to simmer for twenty minutes on low heat. The heat is raised to high to toast the bottom and then the paella is removed from the heat and left it to stand alone to cool.
Escabeche
I also love Spain’s escabeche, which is known as “caveachâ€. Meat or fish is cooked first, and then a mild pickle (spices and vinegar) is added after cooking the meat. The spices and vinegar preserve the meat or fish for a few days.
Mojama
Mojama is the loin of red tuna which dry-cured and salted and then finely sliced and served with a cold glass of dry sherry and salted almonds.
Menestra
I find this dish highly nutritious and healthy. The menestra is a type of vegetable stew. Vegetables such as tender peas, French beans, onion, potatoes, carrots, artichokes, and broad beans are stewed.
Churros Con Chocolate
If you love chocolates like I do, then you’ll definitely never forget Spain’s churros con chocolate. You can enjoy this dish before you sleep when you are craving for a hint of grease and sugar in your mouth, or on mornings when you just want to perk up. The churro is a fried (deep-fried preferably) batter dipped in chocolate.
There you go. Spain’s delightful dishes which happen to be my favorites.
